Happy Father's Day
Posted by Olsenboye on 06.16.2011Every year I think about Father’s Day and I always search for the ‘perfect’ gift to get Dad. While I am picking out the gift the scenario enters my mind- it’s a sunny Sunday afternoon, the BBQ is about to start, everyone is laughing and having a wonderful time together. The moment I give Dad his gift plays in my head and I picture him opening what has taken me so long to find and he realizes how much time, thought and energy I put into finding the ultimate present- then the tear comes to his eye.
Then bam… I am brought back to reality... it’s Thursday and I still do not have a gift!
If you are anything like me, you still need to find, well actually start looking for the perfect, but of course last minute gift. Men’s Fashion Market Editor, Paul Avarali from DETAILS Magazine gives us his Father’s Day Last minute picks and tips for finding that perfect gift for Dad.
Good luck shopping!!
Olsenboye
Paul’s Pick: Jack Spade Dipped Key Clip in Industrial Canvas ($24.50)

Tip: A subtle reminder that you appreciate valet and he’ll think of you every time starts the car.
Paul’s Pick: Steak Station Digital Meat Thermometer ($27.99)

Tip: Help him be the grill-master he thinks he is and let’s be real- what guy doesn’t love a new gadget?
Paul’s Pick: Jack Purcells ($70.00)

Tip: Give his weekend look an easy upgrade. All it takes is his shoe size (size down—they run big).
Paul’s Pick: Ernest Alexander Chambray Necktie ($72.00)

Tip: Forget the cliché, suddenly giving a tie for Father’s Day doesn’t seem so archaic.
Paul’s Pick: Yearly Subscription to DETAILS Magazine ($10.00)

Tip: Keep Dad modern and in the know every month.

My bags are packed...
Posted by Olsenboye on 05.26.2011As summer approaches and travel plans are finalized there is one thing that keeps coming back into my mind… LUGGAGE!! I already own an amazing customized trunk, but sometimes I just want to change it up whether it is with a vintage designer piece (a girl can dream!), a new carry on (bold colors for the summer) or a great little weekend bag for those long- not long enough weekends, like the one quickly approaching.
Inspiration:

Aspiration:
Louis Vuitton Three Piece Set:
Hermes Leather and Canvas Suitcases:
Colored Carry- On: Yes Please!
Weekenders Delight:

Now that we have gotten carried away with luggage, colors, vintage vs. new the real dilemma: What to pack?
(Travel tip: Always check the weather before making any important wardrobe decisions).
Since the sun will be out this weekend, here are our Top Five Olsenboye picks for packing:
1. Border Print Dress: Perfect to pair with a sandal and can go from day to night with a little black cardigan. Buy Now:

2. Cropped Legging: This weekend forget the perfect little black dress and exchange it for these perfectly cropped leggings. Pair with a bright colored tunic or an over-sized belted t-shirt.

3. Lace Ruffle Dress: As the rule goes, after Memorial Day it is safe to wear white. We know you've been waiting all year and now the time has arrived! Take this dress from day to night just by throwing on a jean jacket and you're set!
Buy now: http://jcp.is/mESnhL

4. Ruffle Tank: A printed tank is essential to pack even if you decide not to wear it. Pair with a cropped legging (Pick 2), a skirt or a pair of jeans.

5. Scissor Sandal: If you are packing light, we recommend this sandal because it is perfect for both comfort and style.

Arielle Holiday Picks
Posted by on 11.05.2010Everyone always asks me how I came up with "Something Navy" as the name of my blog. A funny story: I was telling a friend I love the color navy and felt like I should name the site something including the word navy. We kept repeating to ourselves, “hmm... something navy, something navy...” And then it was born! Somethingnavy.com!
My blog is a way to show those moments of fashion changes and how to switch it up every time you get dressed. Fashion and styling are a way to express who you are and to really feel comfortable in whatever you're feeling and wearing at the moment. I hope my blog is able to inspire people to do that as well.

I grew up around fashion. My sister is a stylist so we were always playing with clothes since I was a kid. I still raid her closet every chance I get. I couldn't even begin to describe my style because I can be rocker one minute and lady-like the next. I just like to mix it up.

Olsenboye's holiday collection is super, super cute and there are so many pieces I am dying for! Dying! I am absolutely loving the Olsenboye blue cords. I was so lucky to wear them on the shoot. They're the perfect blue and looked amazing when cuffed at the bottom. The other piece I'm coveting is the long-sleeve top with cool pseudo gloves. I've always been a huge fan of thumb holes and no one makes them!!
You can bet you'll be seeing me in these items on my blog pretty soon! Until then... happy holidays!
xx Arielle

Meet Holiday Blogger Arielle!
Posted by on 11.02.2010Hi! My name is Arielle Noa and my blog, Something Navy, is a photo journal of my life, my style, and whatever inspires me. I live in New York and love the city more than you can imagine. New York is filled with art, originality, culture, and the best style. I get motivated by it every day, just walking down the street.
Something Navy gives me the chance to express myself through fashion and use myself as a canvas to create my own art. It's great to find beauty in the small, everyday moments, and because I'm a full-time Gemini, I tend to change my style all the time- meaning, I change my outfits three, sometimes four times a day. The blog is the place where I can post it all, like little memories.
I'm so happy to have been asked to be a part of this amazing Olsenboye Holiday Campaign. I have always liked the Olsenboye line for its cool but playful vibe and the experience has been such a wonderful opportunity.

I had an amazing time shooting with Christina and Gala. We laughed, ate, kept each other awake (it ran till all hours of the night!), and held each other up during our attempts to ice skate! They are really great girls and it was truly a pleasure to work with such talented bloggers! Here is some of the behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot. Hope you enjoy!
xx Arielle

Christina Holiday Picks
Posted by on 10.28.2010I was born in New York, but raised in France pretty much my whole life. I started my blog, Trop Rouge, as a way to express myself. It's my little open diary for the world to see. It's where I get to experiment with clothes and fashion. I love all trends and seasons, which makes my style pretty alternative. I can pretty much adapt to any style very easily.
This winter, I'm loving bright colored tights and even wearing them with over-the-knee-socks and big, chunky heels!
After the Olsenboye shoot, seeing all of the cords in the holiday collection, I started craving everything corduroy. Without hesitation, I'm coveting the skinny leg cords in navy or coal Olsenboye has this fall/winter. I love keeping warm, just as much as I love looking good - and you can do both at once. I have to say, it's not always easy for me to wear hats. Have you noticed my hair? It's - well - BIG! I never, ever, ever straighten it (if I was meant to have straight hair, I would have been born with it). That's a valuable style lesson my mom taught me - to be happy with whatever you have and make it work for you. So the big locks have become my signature style. And if there is any message I can impart to my readers, it's to embrace your style no matter what is "in" or what anyone else says. Be who you are - and own it!
Speaking of owning it, let's get back to Olsenboye! Have you seen thisjumper? I die over it. Something I need to own! I want to wear it with red tights and red clogs and layer some delish sweaters on top. Fashion is about being playful - not following any rules. I hope you'll do the same and feel fabulous along the way!
Big Kiss, Christina

Meet Holiday Blogger Christina!
Posted by on 10.25.2010Hi, I'm Christina from the blog Trop Rouge (pronounced "troo-rouge" - it's French because while I was born in New York, I grew up in France). I love fashion! Love, love, love. I created Trop Rouge - to be inspired and to inspire. I'm so thrilled to be a part of the Olsenboye campaign because I'm a HUGE fan of the brand and the happy, cool girl style it evokes. The shoot was beyond fabulous. I never had so much fun ice skating. OMG! You will not believe who we were on the ice with... Sasha Cohen, the Olympic medalist! She happened to be there on her own, practicing, and she agreed to be in the video and she even gave us some tips (they didn't stop me from falling - can't lie!).

Then there was the penthouse dinner party, so incredible. The apartment was gorgeous and so chic (I'd do anything to live there! Maybe one day!) and between takes, Arielle from Something Navy, and I would jump up to the roof to take pictures! It was a blast and I made two new friends - love Gala and Ari... and Olsenboye, of course!
Big Kiss,
Christina

Gala Darling Holiday Picks
Posted by on 10.20.2010Hi again! Hope you’re having a beautiful day! Did you like the behind-the-scenes video I posted? It makes me laugh so much, especially the ice-skating bit in the middle where I stumble & almost pull Arielle down with me!
I thought I’d give you a little more insight into who I am & what I do!
Like I said, I’m from New Zealand originally. I started galadarling.com in 2006 after quitting my job at New Zealand’s corporate post office headquarters, travelling through the USA & Europe, & moving to Australia! I have always been a writer, & started my blog as the prototype of a magazine. Starting a print magazine is something I always wanted to do, but it’s very expensive, so I decided to begin online & see where it went from there.
Initially I wrote about fashion, because it was what I knew best & also what I was most interested in, but as time progressed I realised that what my readers really wanted was to be happy. I started to look deeper into the science of being happy, thinking about the concept of radical self-love, putting that into action & writing about it.
My original obsession remains, though -- I am so inspired by personal style & experimentation as a tool for transformation, & everything that comes with it. I think we’ve all experienced the magical power possessed by a new pair of shoes! I love clothing as a form of personal expression & think it can tell the most wonderful stories.
For every season, I like to write a little piece called “Style Direction” which helps me work out my aesthetic for the coming months. My style direction for the holiday season is what I like to call “psychedelic ladies who lunch." It’s fancy but mad, like an It Girl raided her eccentric auntie’s wardrobe. Think lots of sequins, big floppy hats & very high heels. It’s delicious! The great thing about the cold weather is that it gives you the opportunity to layer up, which is something we did a lot of on the Olsenboye shoot!

Guest Blogger: Olsenboye Design Contest Winner - Grace
Posted by Olsenboye on 07.02.2010We're excited to share a guest blog from the Olsenboye Design Contest winner, Grace Buckley! Her NYC diary:
When I first got to New York I had no idea what to expect, I just knew that it was going to be one of the greatest experiences ever. The first exciting thing that happened? I went down to the baggage claim in LaGuardia airport and someone was holding a sign with my name on it, just like they do in movies…I kept the sign.
Within an hour of arriving in the city, I practically ran into Christian Siriano at Bryant Park! Fabulous! We had lunch there and enjoyed the heat…it was 90 degrees, much different than the 59 degree weather we came from in Maine!

The rest of the day’s adventures included a trip to Mood Fabrics to swatch for collection ideas, a walk through Times Square, and tickets to see an off-Broadway show that night called “The 39 Steps.” (If you have a chance to see it you should, it was amazing!) We returned to our beautiful room on the 12th floor of Morgans New York Hotel. The bedroom had a view of the Empire State Building! There was also a gorgeous vase of flowers from JCPenney that were pink and green…my favorite colors!

The next morning the driver brought us to Mary-Kate and Ashley’s showroom, home to the Olsenboye and Elizabeth and James collections. Mary-Kate and Ashley arrived and gave us a warm welcome. I must say, these girls were unbelievable. They are two of the sweetest and most intelligent people I have ever met. I practically grew up watching their TV shows and movies, and they are everything I thought they would be and more. We also met their business partner Jane, who was also a very friendly person, with a ton of knowledge about the fashion industry. The girls gave us all a tour of the offices and of the upcoming collections and inspirations for both lines. I had the opportunity to hear all about how they translate their ideas into clothing, and just how fast paced and exciting the whole process is.
If there was one piece of advice that stood out to me, it was that mistakes aren’t really mistakes if you learn from them. Everything is a learning process, and if you believe in yourself and what you are doing, you will succeed. I was so fascinated with everything that I saw and learned while I was there, and I am so grateful to everyone who made it possible for me to experience something so wonderful.
Right after meeting Mary-Kate and Ashley, we were taken to JC Penney to shop. I got a ton of Olsenboye stuff, it is adorable! After that we headed into Soho for window shopping, and then had dinner at Asia de Cuba that night. The next morning before the plane ride we went up to the top of Rockefeller Center which has an incredible view of the entire city, and it was a nice way to finish off the trip.
I never imagined I would get the chance to meet Mary-Kate and Ashley, and I still can’t believe it actually happened. The whole trip was a dream come true, and I left feeling very inspired and influenced by the girls. If I could give advice to young designers like myself it would be to advance boldly in the direction of your dreams…the hard work pays off! <3 Grace

NYC Teen Author Festival
Posted by Olsenboye on 03.17.2010NYC is one of the best cities for fun, free events. This week NYC is hosting the NYC Teen Author Festival through March 22nd.
For those of us who love to read, it’s fun to meet talented teen authors (and some cool new friends, too!). Throughout the week, stop by the events and check out some of your favorite writers, hear about their newest books, attend author signings, and find out what’s coming next for your favorite characters. It’s going to be an awesome week, so definitely check it out if you have a chance.
Here are a few of our event picks:
I Have Seen the Future…and It Sounds Like This
Wednesday, 3/18, 6pm, Mulberry Street Branch of the NYPL, 10 Jersey Street (Between Lafayette & Mulberry Streets)
Teen authors are notoriously stingy about reading from their works-in-progress. But for Guest of Honor Joe Monti, authors Libba Bray, Rachel Cohn, Eireann Corrigan, Justine Larbalestier, Barry Lyga, and Scott Westerfeld are willing to share a little bit from their future books. Hosted by David Levithan.
